On his first official day as president, Donald Trump plans to begin deporting undocumented immigrants, roll back Joe Biden’s education policies and dismiss thousands of federal employees, according to the Associated Press.
Trump himself has said he does not intend to be a dictator—except for his first day in office. In his initial days as president, the Republican aims to reshape the federal government by potentially firing 50,000 federal workers whom he believes are secretly working against him.
Trump also plans to pardon those arrested for their involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Over 1,500 U.S. citizens faced charges in connection with the incident. Trump is expected to try to close most of his criminal cases, at least at the federal level, that have been brought against him. While he cannot pardon himself, he might attempt to use his status as the elected president to dismiss or overturn criminal charges.
Additionally, the newly elected president intends to challenge wind energy projects, revoke protections for transgender students against discrimination in schools and attempt to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiation table to stop the war between them.
