The ruling party of Georgia ignored the EU delegation and called them “ordinary pests”

The ruling party of Georgia, Georgian Dream, criticized high-ranking politicians from EU countries who arrived on Monday, November 11, for a visit to express concern about the parliamentary elections.

Members of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of France, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland, and the Baltic States flew to Tbilisi for talks following the parliamentary elections.

However, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, refused to meet with the delegation.

In a message to the media later on Monday, Kakha Kaladze, secretary general of the governing Georgian Dream party and mayor of Tbilisi, claimed the visiting EU politicians were “ordinary pests” and accused them of “propagating lies.”

At a press conference with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, one of the members of the EU delegation, Michael Roth, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, said that the goal of the visit was to “express solidarity with the majority of Georgian citizens who are reaching for EU membership.”
