Trump plans to appoint Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, according to CNN.

“I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” said Trump.

Stefanik, who has served as a Republican representative, has a history of positions that are not always aligned with policies supportive of Ukraine. Notably, she voted against new aid to Ukraine in April of last year.

At the time, Stefanik explained her decision, that previously she strongly supported Ukraine’s right to defend itself with lethal aid, including weapons, ammunition, and training. However, she cannot now support billions of taxpayer dollars for non-lethal aid while Joe Biden is not addressing the crisis at southern border.
