Despite major news reports confirming Rubio’s selection, Ric Grenell’s supporters insisted it wasn’t final, with a Grenell ally stating, “We’re still waiting for official word from President Trump and the campaign.” Grenell, a loyal Trump supporter and former Director of National Intelligence, has close ties with Trump’s family and has lobbied for the role, although some in Trump’s circle disapprove of his push.
Grenell, known for his assertive style, has earned both admiration and criticism within MAGA circles. While top conservative voices held out hope for his appointment, influential figures like Charlie Kirk cautioned Trump’s base against trusting unverified reports, advising them to await Trump’s own announcement. Other key Trump allies, including Elon Musk, joined the social media skepticism, with Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also expressing doubts about Rubio, who they feel is too hawkish for the role.
