At least 10 people have died in a fire at a nursing home in Spain

Ten people were killed, and at least two others sustained serious injuries early on Friday morning in a severe fire at a psychogeriatric residence in the town of Villafranca de Ebro, near Zaragoza, Spain.

The Zaragoza City Fire Department received a call at 5:00 AM about a large fire at the Jardines de Villafranca nursing home, located on Alfonso Bes Labuerta Street in Villafranca de Ebro. Firefighters arrived with two heavy-duty pumps, two light city pumps, a 30-meter automatic ladder, an ambulance, a modern medical unit, and a van with various tools. Civil Guard representatives from Zaragoza also arrived at the scene.

The fire was extinguished, and the building was ventilated, allowing residents to move to the living room area. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Ten people who were inside the home died from smoke inhalation, and at least two others sustained serious injuries. Warnings were sent to Royo Villanova, Miguel Servet, and Clínico Universitario hospitals to assist the victims.

At the time of the fire, there were 82 people in the residence, which cares for elderly individuals and those with mental health conditions.
