The incident was reported on Friday at around 6:00 AM. According to law enforcement, paint was found on the monument located on Angelowicza Street.
Police officers arrived at the scene and, together with criminalists, carried out the necessary investigative procedures. An initial investigation is being conducted under Article 261 of the Polish Criminal Code, which pertains to the desecration of monuments. If the perpetrators are found guilty, they may face fines or restrictions.
The monument was erected at the site of the first battle between Jewish fighters and fascists in 1943. Israel’s Ambassador to Poland, Jakub Livne, called for the condemnation of the vandals actions, the identification of the culprits and their punishment. The ambassador also emphasized that this is not the first instance of anti-Semitic vandalism in Poland.
