On the afternoon of Saturday, November 16, the man barricaded himself inside the restaurant L’Olivier, taking several staff members hostage. It is reported that he is holding at least four people.
Numerous police vehicles and officers have surrounded the area to establish a security perimeter. Witnesses reported the arrival of the Paris police special forces unit, BRI, at the scene.
The operation is taking place on Ernest Renan Street, which has been closed to traffic. According to Le Figaro, the man holding hostages in the Paris suburb has expressed an intention to take his own life. The restaurant was empty of customers at the time, with only staff present.
