In Germany, there is a shortage of 100,000 truck drivers

Many goods do not reach dealers and customers on time because freight forwarders and transport companies lack 100,000 truck drivers, reports Bild.

“Every year, we lose another 15,000 drivers,” says Dirk Engelhardt, board representative of the Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics, and Waste Disposal (BGL), which represents the interests of around 7,000 companies.

Each year, over 30,000 drivers retire in Germany, while only 15,000–17,000 young professionals replace them. This is happening despite an increase in freight volumes, as more and more Germans are shopping online.
