Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally party in the French parliament, has expressed doubts about public trust in the next president of France if she is barred from running in the 2027 elections.
In an indirect challenge to the legitimacy of the upcoming presidential elections, Le Pen argued that depriving citizens of a democratic choice could erode trust in the future head of state.
This is unacceptable political interference in the democratic process. Some believe it’s easier to sideline me than to confront me directly. What trust would the elected president have if I were unable to run? – she emphasized.
Le Pen also criticized the Paris prosecutor’s office, questioning its independence and claiming that its actions undermine France’s voice on the international stage. “This weakens our country’s position while we claim to teach democracy to the world,” she added.
The National Rally party announced on social media platform X that a petition launched in support of Le Pen has already garnered over 200,000 signatures.
