EU expands sanctions against Iran

On November 18, the EU Council decided to broaden the scope of sanctions against Iran due to its support for Russia.

The decision targets the use of ships and ports for transferring Iranian-made drones, missiles, and related technologies and components.

The new measures include a ban on the export, transfer, supply, or sale of components from the EU to Iran that are used in the development and production of missiles and drones.

Additionally, the EU has imposed restrictions on transactions and any operations involving ports and gateways owned, managed, or controlled by individuals and entities listed under the sanctions. This includes access to port infrastructure like Amirabad and Anzali, as well as the provision of services to vessels.

Furthermore, the EU Council has introduced restrictive measures against one individual and four entities. Among those listed is the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its director, Mohammad Reza Khiabani. IRISL is Iran’s national maritime carrier, and for years its vessels have been involved in transporting drones for the EU-listed Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
