Trump nominated a climate crisis skeptic for energy secretary

Donald Trump has proposed oil executive Chris Wright for the position of Energy Secretary.

Wright, who leads Liberty Energy, is known for his statements denying the existence of a climate crisis.

There is no climate crisis, and we are also not in the midst of an energy transition, Wright has claimed, adding that the climate movement will “collapse under its own weight.”

Wright’s company specializes in oil and gas development, offering hydraulic fracturing services. In 2019, Wright attracted media attention when he publicly drank fracking fluid to demonstrate that it was supposedly safe for the environment.

Experts and environmental activists have already voiced concerns about his potential appointment, seeing it as a signal that the U.S. may further distance itself from global efforts to combat climate change.
