Czechs to pay more for gas from January

Czech residents will see higher gas costs next year, with the Energy Regulatory Authority announcing an 8–15% increase in gas distribution charges and the regulated portion of gas expenses.

Households with higher gas usage, particularly those relying on gas for home heating, water heating, and cooking, will bear the largest burden. In Prague and South Bohemia, families consuming around 3,000 cubic meters of gas annually could pay over 2,000 CZK (80 EUR) more per year.

For smaller households with lower gas usage, such as those primarily using gas for cooking and water heating (around 1,800 cubic meters annually), bills are expected to increase by about 1,500 CZK per year.

The price hike aims to fund the maintenance and modernization of the country’s gas distribution infrastructure.
