Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has warned of an unprecedented risk of conflict escalation in Europe following Kyiv’s authorization to use Western long-range weapons against Russia and Moscow’s update to its nuclear doctrine.
On Wednesday morning, Orbán convened Hungary’s Defense Council to address the situation. In a video message posted on Facebook, he stated:
With Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential elections, peace or at least a ceasefire would have been more attainable. However, a pro-war administration remains in power in the U.S. for another two months. This means that yesterday, Ukrainians launched long-range missiles at Russia, and Moscow responded by tightening its nuclear doctrine. The danger of the war spreading has never been so great.
Orbán emphasized that in the coming weeks and months, Hungary will need to utilize all its diplomatic expertise, resources and knowledge to avoid being drawn into the conflict in Ukraine.
