Milei and Meloni pledge stronger ties at Buenos Aires meeting

On Wednesday, Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met in Buenos Aires to strengthen their partnership, ultimately agreeing to draft an action plan for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

“Today, two like-minded governments meet, recognizing shared challenges from our unique perspectives. We have a historic opportunity to strengthen our ties and build a special relationship between our nations,” Milei remarked during a joint statement with Meloni.

Milei highlighted the similarities between their leadership paths, noting that both have been chosen to lead with “courage, truth, and without hesitation.” While Milei’s primary goal is tackling Argentina’s soaring inflation, Meloni’s focus lies on addressing “uncontrolled immigration” in Italy.

Prime Minister Meloni emphasized the deep-rooted connection between Italy and Argentina, referring to the two as brother towns. She stated, Our historical friendship is fueled daily by the presence of the largest Italian community abroad.”

To solidify these bonds, Meloni proposed a comprehensive Italy-Argentina 2025-2030 action plan, which would enhance cooperation in combating organized crime and encourage commercial investments. She also highlighted the substantial presence of Italian businesses in Argentina, with 300 companies generating €3 billion in annual revenue.

“Market liberalization policies President Milei is implementing can create new opportunities for investments from our perspective,” Meloni added, expressing optimism about future economic collaboration.

The meeting showcased a shared commitment to addressing domestic challenges while strengthening ties between their nations, setting the stage for a robust partnership in the years to comee
