Elon Musk has escalated his feud with the British government, calling the U.K. a “tyrannical police state” over the weekend.
His latest comments included backing a petition demanding an immediate general election, despite the country having just held one in July. Musk also shared a documentary by Tommy Robinson, a jailed right-wing activist, with his 200 million followers on X.
The tech mogul, who has clashed with Britain’s center-left Labour government throughout the year, voiced his anger after encountering a viral petition calling for a fresh vote. Responding to the petition, Musk declared: “The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state.” This remark followed his previous post, where he shared a graph showing the decline in Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s approval ratings, adding, “The voice of the people is a great antidote.”
Musk’s tensions with the British government peaked earlier this year when he weighed in on the tragic killing of three schoolgirls in Southport. He spread what critics of called ‘misinformation’ about the police’s handling of the case and accused Starmer of running a biased justice system. After suggesting that “civil war is inevitable” in the U.K., Musk was snubbed from an investment summit, although officials have since attempted to mend fences.
In addition to his criticism of Starmer, Musk also questioned the imprisonment of Tommy Robinson, who was jailed for breaching a court order linked to a defamatory documentary about a Syrian refugee. Musk shared Robinson’s documentary with his millions of followers, further stoking controversy.
