UK and France weigh sending troops to Ukraine, sparking escalation fears

The UK and France are now flirting with the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, a dangerous escalation after already allowing Kyiv to fire British-supplied missiles into Russia.

Talks began during UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to Paris for the November 11th commemorations. According to Le Monde, a British military source confirmed that both nations are deepening defense cooperation, focusing on Ukraine and European security.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot further stoked fears when he told the BBC that “there are no ‘red lines'” in supporting Ukraine, adding that no options, including troop deployments, were off the table. However, following backlash, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy quickly clarified that the UK isn’t sending troops to Ukraine “at this time.”

Meanwhile, French politician Florian Philippot, leader of the Les Patriotes movement, strongly opposed the idea, claiming that deploying soldiers would guarantee a catastrophic World War III.

Adding fuel to the fire, National Pulse managing editor Jack Montgomery humorously noted that with the UK’s military cuts, even if they sent every soldier they have, they’d struggle to secure a single Ukrainian town.

A Kremlin spokesperson responded to the growing rumors, pointing out the division among European nations on this matter, with some advocating for restraint while others push for escalation. The situation remains precarious, and it’s clear that not all Europeans are on the same page when it comes to risking further conflict in Ukraine.
