German police stop Polish man for improperly transporting hundreds of pigeons

German police stopped a 42-year-old Polish man on the A1 highway in northern Germany, between Hamburg and Lübeck, after they discovered he was transporting over 100 carrier pigeons in his Volkswagen Passat.

The incident occurred last week when police noticed that the man’s car, a Volkswagen Passat station wagon, had poorly secured boxes. Upon inspection, they found 103 carrier pigeons in five wooden containers.

The driver explained to the authorities that he had recently purchased the birds and was returning home with them. However, police did not allow him to continue his journey, as the way the pigeons were being transported violated animal protection laws.

The police report did not provide any further information about the fate of the pigeons.
