In a charged address to the European Parliament, Bulgarian MEP Petar Volgin (Revival) sounded alarms over escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, criticizing EU leaders for policies he believes are edging Europe closer to a catastrophic conflict.
He condemned recent decisions to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles, which he argued could provoke a devastating Russian retaliation.
“Behind the scarecrow of imaginary North Korean troops—whom no one has ever seen—EU leaders ignore the real danger: the looming threat of a third world war,” Volgin declared. “By enabling Kyiv to use long-range missiles against Russia, the U.S. and its European vassals are pushing us closer to disaster. This policy won’t save Ukraine.”

Volgin warned that continued escalation could provoke a catastrophic response from Moscow. “If this war continues to be fueled, the only outcome will be a Russian counterstrike so severe that even a supersonic Oreshnik missile will look like festive fireworks in comparison,” he said.
The MEP expressed frustration with what he called reckless actions by European and American leadership. “I understand the outgoing U.S. administration is angry over its electoral defeat, but why are EU leaders charging forward like headless horsemen, blind to the abyss ahead?” Volgin asked.
He accused EU policymakers of prolonging the war rather than seeking peace, exacerbating tensions and ignoring the risks of nuclear escalation. “The demons ruling the EU will destroy it,” Volgin warned, calling for a radical shift in approach to avoid what he described as a “nuclear apocalypse.”
Volgin’s speech comes amid growing divisions within the European Parliament over military aid to Ukraine and the broader strategy toward the ongoing conflict. His stark remarks highlight the deepening unease among some lawmakers about the potential consequences of Europe’s alignment with U.S. policies in the region.
