Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently met with US President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida to discuss the future of tech innovation in the US.
The meeting, which took place on November 27, was described by sources as a cordial exchange, followed by dinner. A Meta spokesperson stated that Zuckerberg was “grateful for the invitation” and saw it as “an important time for the future of American innovation.”
The meeting comes as many tech leaders realign with Trump’s incoming administration. Zuckerberg, who has had a tense relationship with Trump in the past, notably over Facebook’s alleged censorship of conservative viewpoints, is now reportedly more closely identifying with libertarian causes. His company faced criticism during the 2020 election for limiting the spread of a controversial story about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which Zuckerberg later admitted was a mistake.
Trump’s senior advisor, Stephen Miller, praised Zuckerberg, calling him a “supporter” of the changes Trump plans to make in the US economy. Miller added that Zuckerberg wants to be part of the “national renewal” under Trump’s leadership.
Zuckerberg isn’t alone in this shift. Other major tech figures, like former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Apple’s Tim Cook, have also recently aligned more closely with Trump. Bezos, who once supported Democratic causes, congratulated Trump after his election win, while Cook had a conversation with Trump in October regarding a penalty imposed on Apple by the European Court of Justice. Both have expressed interest in engaging with Trump’s administration moving forward.
