According to a poll by Ifop-Fiducial for Sud Radio, 53% of French citizens favor the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government due to a proposed budget plan that has sparked widespread discontent.
The budget proposal, aimed at reducing the national deficit, includes €60 billion in tax increases and significant spending cuts. However, 67% of respondents oppose these measures, while only 33% support them.
Political instability is growing, as Barnier’s government may lose parliamentary confidence in the coming weeks if right-wing and left-wing parties join forces to pass a no-confidence vote.
A separate poll by Elabe for BFM TV revealed that 63% of French citizens believe President Emmanuel Macron should also resign if Barnier’s cabinet falls.
Amid the escalating crisis, Marine Le Pen, leader of the “National Rally,” has announced that her party will withdraw its support for the government coalition if a no-confidence vote takes place.
The Ifop-Fiducial poll results are based on responses from 1,006 participants surveyed on November 26–27.
