Spanish authorities have dismantled a criminal network that used drones manufactured in Ukraine to transport hashish from Morocco. The operation, which involved perpetrators based in Algeciras, southern Spain, utilized unmanned aerial vehicles to cross the Strait of Gibraltar, linking Morocco to Spain.
The “drug drones,” produced by small manufacturers in Ukraine, were capable of carrying up to 10 kilograms of hashish over distances exceeding 50 kilometers. According to Spanish police, these drones were transported by car to southern Spain.
In collaboration with law enforcement from Ukraine and Poland, Spanish officials arrested 10 individuals and confiscated three drones, along with remote control devices, other equipment, and a significant quantity of cash and hashish. Seven of the arrested suspects were held in custody as a precaution.
Spain’s strategic location and historical ties to former colonies in Latin America make it a major entry point for drugs into Europe. Additionally, Morocco is one of the world’s largest producers of cannabis.
