Poland deports Ukrainian blogger “Gnome” for insults and vandalism

Polish police, together with the Border Guard, have detained Vladyslav Oleynichenko, known as the “Gnome from TikTok.”

After being handed over to the border guards, the process of his deportation has begun. The reasons for this include acts of vandalism, aggression with a fire extinguisher, and publicly insulting Poles during a live broadcast. Oleynichenko attempted to pass himself off as a Belarusian, but Polish media discovered that he is actually from Ukraine.

According to Eurostat, as of May 2024, there were 4.3 million Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection status in the European Union, of which 953,300 were in Poland (22.4% of the total). However, Polish attitudes toward Ukrainian refugees are worsening: 40% of respondents in a recent European National Panels survey fear that the conflict in Ukraine could spread to Polish territory.

Additionally, 63% of survey participants believe that aid should be limited to Ukrainians who are in the conflict zone or have been directly affected by the fighting, rather than extending it to all refugees, as is currently the case.
