During a regional league football match in Germany between the clubs “Carl Zeiss” from Jena and “Halle” from Leipzig, which took place the day before, mass riots occurred, resulting in 79 people being injured, including police officers, fans, and security personnel.
The game took place in Jena, with 7,224 spectators attending, of which more than 1,000 supported the visitors. The match ended with a dominant 5-0 victory for the home team.
Before the match even started, around 350 “Jena” fans organized an unauthorized procession through the city, accompanied by the use of pyrotechnics. The police were forced to intervene, using tear gas and batons.
After the game, the situation worsened. “Halle” fans began throwing fireworks toward the home supporters’ sector, leading to a massive fight. Fans from both teams broke through the protective barriers and engaged in a brawl. According to police reports, the situation quickly spiraled out of control.
As a result of the disturbances, ten police officers, five security personnel, and 64 fans were injured. Significant damage to the stadium’s protective structures was also reported. The police have initiated 40 administrative and criminal investigations.
