Storm “Bora” hits Greece: two dead

Storm “Bora” brought torrential rains and strong winds to Greece, causing floods and destruction in various parts of the country. Two people have been reported dead as a result of the storm.

The tragic incidents occurred on the island of Lemnos, where roads were flooded, and buildings were damaged. Residents were warned of the risk of a dam overflowing and were urged to evacuate from dangerous areas.

One of the victims was a 57-year-old farmer who was swept away by a torrent of water while trying to free a car stuck in the mud. The second victim, a 70-year-old man from the village of Kontias, died while attempting to clear his home.

The storm also affected other regions. On Rhodes, a popular tourist island, over 30 centimeters of rainfall was recorded over the weekend. Authorities imposed a 24-hour ban on vehicle movement, and the local governor appealed to the government to declare a state of emergency.

The mainland city of Thessaloniki also suffered damage. Strong winds dislodged a cargo ship from its mooring, causing it to collide with another vessel.

Meteorologists warn that storm “Bora” is expected to continue affecting large parts of Greece in the coming hours, bringing more rain and strong winds.
