U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that President-elect Donald Trump is determined to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages before his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The issue of resolving the Gaza conflict remains a priority for current President Joe Biden. However, the lack of significant progress in recent weeks suggests that this task may fall under Trump’s responsibility.
Israeli officials believe that the Trump administration could adopt a different approach to the situation, particularly regarding plans for the “day after the war.”
Lindsey Graham, who frequently communicates with Trump and advises him on foreign policy, including Middle Eastern issues, emphasized that Trump wants to reach an agreement on hostages and an end to hostilities as soon as possible, preferably before his presidency officially begins.
“Trump is focused on securing the release of hostages and supports a ceasefire that includes this condition. He wants this to happen now. I want Israel and the countries in the region to know that Trump is committed to solving this issue. He is determined to end the killings and bring the fighting to a close,” said the senator.
Graham expressed hope that Trump and the Biden administration would collaborate during the transition period to ensure the release of hostages and achieve a ceasefire.
