Starting December 2, workers at Volkswagen factories in Germany will begin warning strikes organized by the IG Metall union.
The strikes will take place at nine out of the company’s ten factories. The protests are in response to Volkswagen’s plans for large-scale layoffs and wage cuts. IG Metall aims to express its opposition to the company’s management, which, despite the completion of wage negotiations, continues to push for layoffs and factory closures.
The labor agreement between workers and the company expired on the night of Sunday. Key rallies are planned in Wolfsburg, where IG Metall’s Thorsten Greger and the chairman of the works council, Daniela Cavallo, will speak. Protests will also occur in Zwickau, Emden, Chemnitz, Dresden, Salzgitter, Hanover, and Braunschweig.
The warning strikes will last for about two hours and will occur during each shift, according to a company representative. Between the strikes, production will continue as usual.
