European tourism strikes: disruptions expected in December and January

Travel across Europe will face disruptions in December and January due to multiple planned strikes affecting flights, trains and public transport.

In Italy, a 24-hour general strike on 13 December will impact flights, trains and public transport. The strike is organized by the USB union and protests government economic policies. Airports will also face disruptions on 15 December due to strikes by air navigation staff and air traffic controllers. A public transport strike on 10 January will affect buses, trams and commuter trains, but long-distance rail services and taxis will not be impacted. Similar disruptions are expected in Florence on 12 and 25 January due to railway and tram staff walkouts.

In France, rail strikes starting 11 December will impact TGV, international, and regional services, likely continuing until Christmas. Dockworkers will also strike on 9-10 December, causing minimal disruption to passenger services but affecting ports. EasyJet employees have filed an indefinite strike notice, which may disrupt flights until 16 December.

Finnair has cancelled 300 flights on 9 and 13 December, affecting around 33,000 passengers due to a pilots strike. In Spain, a nationwide bus strike, ongoing since late November, will continue in December, especially impacting regional services in Murcia and Andalusia.

Travelers should regularly check for updates and confirm their transport services before traveling.
