A man’s body, believed to be that of a migrant, was discovered near the Poland-Belarus border. Found without documents or luggage, the man has yet to be identified.
The body was discovered last week by workers maintaining a dam near Lipszczany in eastern Poland, according to the Spanish news agency EFE. Polish investigators suspect the deceased had crossed into Poland from Belarus. A broken phone and pieces of paper with phone numbers were found near the body, according to the Polish news agency PAP.
Described as “dark-skinned,” the man is estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old. An autopsy revealed no signs of physical injuries, and the likely cause of death was hypothermia, authorities stated. The weather in the region has been near freezing, with snow expected in the coming days.
Recent data highlights the growing tension: between November 29 and December 1, over 100 attempts to cross into Poland were recorded in the Podlaskie region. On Monday alone, at least 45 crossing attempts were reported.
In one incident, border guard officers were confronted by migrants who reportedly threw stones and branches, damaging a service vehicle. Additionally, on November 28, the Polish border guard participated in an EUROPOL operation, arresting 25 individuals suspected of organizing illegal migration attempts in the Bug River and Podlaskie region.
