Viktor Orbán: Hungary acts as “opposition to pro-migration Brussels”

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán declared Hungary’s ruling parties as the “opposition to a pro-migration Brussels” in a video posted on Facebook Tuesday.

He emphasized Hungary’s steadfast stance against the European Union’s migration policies, asserting that the country “deserves an award, not punishment,” for its efforts in border control.

Following a meeting of his party’s leadership, Orbán stated that Fidesz Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) had delivered a “battlefield report” from Brussels. According to Orbán, the EU had launched “a campaign of lies” by claiming Hungary was under no obligation to host illegal migrants.

The Hungarian government remains firmly opposed to the EU’s migration pact, which Orbán said would force member states to accommodate migrants and establish “migrant ghettos,” dismantling Hungary’s existing border protections.

Orbán highlighted that Hungary has spent approximately €2 billion on border security measures to date, underscoring the country’s commitment to safeguarding its borders.

When it comes to migration, one mistake is all it takes. Countries with weak leadership allowed migrants in and now can never fully reverse that decision, Orbán said. We won’t let that happen. They can try to appoint a governor or install a puppet government, but we will not give in.
