According to the Jerusalem Post newspaper, the Israeli military attacked a factory owned by the regime of former Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
During the civil war, Assad’s forces repeatedly used poisonous gases against the population. The regime was hostile toward Israel and was supported by Iranian mullahs and the Lebanese terrorist group “Hezbollah.” However, it is not in Israel’s interest if chemical weapons were to fall into the hands of Assad’s opponents, including Islamist groups.
According to unconfirmed media reports, Israeli tanks entered the buffer zone of Syria in the Golan Heights. One Israeli television channel reported that this was a security measure. However, at present, attacks by Syrian rebels on Israel are considered unlikely.
