In Rome, activists trying to break into Pope Francis’ motorcade were detained

In Rome, police detained a group of activists who attempted to approach Pope Francis’ motorcade as he was en route to a ceremony honoring the Immaculate Conception.

Among the participants was a Spanish activist known for her protests against bullfighting. She climbed over a barrier near the Spanish Steps and tried to rush toward one of the vehicles in the papal motorcade. However, security personnel and gendarmes intervened promptly, preventing the incident.

Pope Francis continued his route after a brief delay and carried out the planned ceremony of homage to the Virgin Mary as scheduled. All four activists were detained and arrested.

Previously, in August, animal rights activists also staged a protest during the Pope’s weekly audience at the Vatican, voicing their opposition to bullfighting.
