Macron to consult Poland on potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly considering a potential European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine and plans to consult with Poland, which he sees as a key ally in such a project.

According to the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, the mission would involve peacekeeping forces from European countries, which could serve as a safeguard against further Russian aggression if an agreement were reached to end the current phase of the war between Russia and Ukraine. It is expected that the new U.S. president will attempt to initiate such a ceasefire.

The discussion of this potential mission is set to be a key topic during Macron’s visit to Warsaw on December 12. The French president likely also discussed the idea with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting on Saturday, when dozens of world leaders gathered for the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
