Climate activists threaten largest ever blockade of Warsaw

Climate activists from the group “Last Generation” have threatened to carry out the “largest blockade in history” of Warsaw on Friday evening, following Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s refusal to engage with them at a “negotiation table” they set up in front of his office.

The group has been blocking intersections in the Polish capital for several days. They announced plans to gather on Wisłostrada on December 13 at 5:00 PM, saying, “Since the prime minister refuses to meet with citizens, they will take to the streets. On Friday, the largest blockade in the history of ‘Last Generation’ will take place.”

Activists argue they have no choice but to stage this major blockade, as the prime minister has not responded to their demands or met with them. Tusk recently called on authorities to take decisive action against climate activists who block roads.

Earlier this week, protesters blocked the tunnel on Wisłostrada. Over the next few days, members of “Last Generation” repeatedly blocked streets in Warsaw as part of their demonstrations. On November 29, they staged a protest in the Mokotów district of Warsaw.
