Poland has signed a contract with the United States to purchase several MQ-9B SkyGuardian drones, with delivery scheduled by early 2027, according to the Polish Ministry of Defense.
Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak announced that Poland has ordered a number of these drones for a total contract value of $310 million. The MQ-9Bs will replace the older MQ-9A Reapers, which Poland received on lease in February 2023.
Błaszczak emphasized that, while the expenditure is significant, it represents an investment in cutting-edge technology crucial for national security.
These drones possess exceptional reconnaissance capabilities, thanks to modern radars, optoelectronics, and communication systems, which will give us a significant advantage, Błaszczak stated.
The drones are expected to be delivered by early 2027, though Warsaw hopes for an earlier timeline. Additionally, Poland is set to receive Homar-K multiple rocket launchers from South Korea.
Polls show that more than 70% of Poles support increased defense spending.
