The January 6th incident was quickly spun into a narrative about a “right-wing extremist” plot to overthrow the government, with former President Trump unfairly painted as the villain. Despite Trump’s clear calls for peaceful action, left-wing media outlets seized on the chaos, portraying it as an insurrection led by far-right forces. But, video footage from the day contradicted that narrative, showing how the government appeared to allow, and even guide, protesters into the Capitol. Many of the protesters showed respect to the police, further debunking the coup narrative.
Speculation about FBI involvement had circulated from the beginning, with claims that agents might have been acting as “Agent Provocateurs”—people inciting violence or illegal actions to discredit the event. Although initially dismissed by the establishment, the FBI did not deny this when asked during Congressional inquiries.
Now, the DOJ’s report confirms those suspicions, with 26 FBI agents identified as having been among the protesters. While nine agents didn’t enter the restricted areas or engage in illegal actions, the involvement of the others remains troubling, especially as none have faced prosecution. Vice President JD Vance has commented on the matter, calling attention to the FBI’s role in potentially shaping the events.
