Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk strongly condemned the plans of eco-activists from the “Last Generation” movement to carry out a large-scale protest blocking roads in the Warsaw area.
Tusk stated that “idiotic actions, such as attacks with fire extinguishers or spraying paint on monuments, will be perceived and treated by the law with full severity.” He also noted that road blockades, as outlined by the European Court of Human Rights, violate the rights of citizens and could be considered a crime.
Tusk’s response was in reaction to the announcement by activists planning to block the Wisłostrada, a major expressway in Warsaw. The protest is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM and is expected to be “the largest blockade in recent weeks,” with participation from other public organizations.
Activists from “Last Generation” had already blocked this road at the end of November. They demand that all funds from the construction of new roads and highways be allocated to the development of local public transport, and that a unified regional transport pass be introduced nationwide, costing 50 zlotys.
