Indonesia declares state of emergency over violence against women and children

Indonesia has declared a state of emergency due to rising sexual violence against women and children, said the Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Bintang Puspayoga, as reported by the ANTARA news agency.

Puspayoga emphasized the need for coordination and joint efforts among ministries and agencies to effectively address the issue.

We cannot solve this problem alone. Our authority and budget are limited, but through collaboration and raising awareness, we can make progress, the minister stated.

She highlighted that addressing violence is a top priority, noting that women make up 49.42% of Indonesia’s population, while children account for 31.6%.
