The economic situation in Norway is deteriorating, with a sharp increase in food prices and overall inflation pushing more families below the poverty line.
Over the past three years, food prices in the country have risen by 33%, one of the steepest increases in Scandinavia. According to sociological surveys, one in five Norwegians struggles to cover basic expenses. The situation is particularly alarming for vulnerable groups, such as single parents, the elderly, the unemployed, and migrants.
The Norwegian Red Cross reports that around 100,000 children in the country are growing up in families with consistently low incomes. These families often have no choice but to rely on charitable organizations, such as food banks and social support centers.
Additionally, in a recent report, experts from the Norwegian National Institute for Consumer Research called on the authorities to revise the social welfare system. They emphasized that the current level of support fails to keep up with the rising cost of living and the increasing pressure on household budgets.
