An incident with a tragic outcome occurred in Göttingen, Germany, on the evening of December 18. A man assaulted a passerby and then attacked police officers with a knife, leading to his fatal shooting.
According to police reports, the attacker was likely suffering from a mental health disorder. He pushed an unfamiliar woman for no apparent reason, prompting her to call emergency services. When officers arrived at the scene, the 35-year-old man unexpectedly attacked one of them with a knife, injuring the officer in the upper body. In response, one of the officers opened fire, fatally wounding the attacker.
Forensic examinations were still ongoing at the scene. Göttingen police announced that the investigation would be transferred to another police department to ensure impartiality.
