Spanish authorities have cracked a year-long murder case with an unexpected clue from Google Street View. The National Police recently arrested two individuals in the province of Soria for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of a Cuban man in late 2023.
The breakthrough came when investigators, searching for leads on online services, discovered a Google Maps image showing a person seemingly loading what could be human remains into the trunk of a car. The photo was taken by a Google Maps vehicle in the small village of Tajueco, part of the municipality of Soria. The suspects, arrested last Thursday, are the victim’s partner and her ex-partner.
The man’s disappearance was reported on November 23 of the previous year, when a relative received suspicious messages that were supposedly sent by the missing person, raising immediate concern. Subsequent investigations led authorities to uncover part of what is believed to be the victim’s remains, which were found buried in a cemetery in Andaluz, another municipality in Soria. The remains are still pending definitive identification, but they were located using advanced forensic technology.
The investigation continues, but police have gathered enough evidence to charge the individuals allegedly responsible for the man’s disappearance and death.
