Serbia announces Fico’s upcoming “gas talks” with Putin in Moscow

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has claimed that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is planning to visit Moscow soon for discussions with Vladimir Putin regarding gas supplies after 2024.

Vučić made the remarks during an interview with Serbian television, as reported by Euronews.

The Serbian president stated that he had “unofficially learned” about Fico’s upcoming visit to Putin, reportedly scheduled for Monday, December 24.

“On Monday, Robert Fico will go to Putin as the leader of an EU country, which, needless to say, will provoke reactions from other European Union leaders,” Vučić said.

The Slovak side has not commented on Vučić’s claims at the time of publication. Slovakia has previously made efforts to secure an extension of the gas transit agreement between Ukraine and Russia, which is set to expire in 2024.
