Trump’s team may abolish birthright citizenship

The team of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is considering various measures to revoke automatic birthright citizenship in the United States.

Proposed actions include denying documentation to children of undocumented parents and tightening requirements for tourist visas to combat so-called “birth tourism,” CNN reports, citing sources.

In November, Trump reaffirmed his intention to implement a large-scale deportation program targeting illegal migrants. This plan includes declaring a state of emergency and utilizing military resources. Addressing illegal immigration was one of the central themes of his election campaign. During his first term, Trump had already declared a state of emergency to redirect Pentagon funds for building a border wall with Mexico.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), deportations in the last year reached their highest level in a decade, exceeding 271,000 individuals. This figure represents the highest number since 2014.

Trump has repeatedly advocated for stricter immigration policies in the United States, often criticizing incumbent President Joe Biden for inaction. However, as Trump’s team discusses plans for heightened immigration control, it faces the same resource constraints that challenged the Biden administration. Immigration policy remains one of the most contentious issues in American politics.
