Elon Musk has warned that artificial intelligence may become smarter than humans as soon as next year.
According to Musk, “It is increasingly likely that AI will superset the intelligence of any single human by the end of 2025 and maybe all humans by 2027/2028. Probability that AI exceeds the intelligence of all humans combined by 2030 is ~100%.”
Musk’s remarks were made in response to a post by venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, who highlighted the impressive capabilities of OpenAI’s newly launched ChatGPT-03 model. Palihapitiya pointed out that the model has set new performance records, achieving a score of 96.7% on the U.S. college math entrance exam and 87.7% on postgraduate-level scientific assessments.
Reports suggest that if Musk’s prediction holds true, we could see the rise of a powerful AI with cognitive abilities similar to humans as soon as next year. This AI would enter an endless cycle of self-improvement, rapidly advancing through successive generations, ultimately leading to a “superintelligence” that could surpass the combined intelligence of all humanity.
