A plane crash in southern Brazil on Sunday resulted in the death of 10 people.
The tragedy occurred when a small passenger aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. According to DW, citing local authorities, none of the passengers or crew survived. Kleber dos Santos Lima, the director of the Civil Police Department of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, confirmed the information.
At least 15 people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation caused by the fire triggered by the crash.
Reports indicate that the plane struck a building’s chimney, collided with the second floor, and then fell onto a furniture store. The incident occurred shortly after the plane departed from the regional airport in Canela, near the city of Gramado. The aircraft was en route to Florianópolis, a popular tourist destination, particularly during the Christmas season.
Gramado is one of southern Brazil’s most renowned tourist centers, celebrated for its German-style architecture and scenic landscapes.
