U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of former American football player Bo Hines as the Executive Director of the Presidential Council on Digital Assets.
According to a statement released by Trump’s team, Hines will lead the new advisory body, which includes leading experts from the crypto industry, under the leadership of David Sachs, who will serve as the “crypto czar.”
Hines, who is 29 years old, will work alongside Sachs to foster innovation and growth in the digital assets sector and ensure industry leaders have the necessary resources to succeed.
Trump has long been a supporter of cryptocurrencies. Even before his election victory, he promised to make the U.S. the “global capital” of cryptocurrencies. In July, before the elections, he announced plans to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve if he won. He also became the first former U.S. president to pay with Bitcoin at one of his campaign events. After his victory, Bitcoin’s price hit an all-time high, surpassing $108,000. In early December, Trump announced the nomination of Paul Atkins for the position of head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), expecting that his policies will be more crypto-friendly compared to the Biden administration’s stance.
