German customs seize over 4.4 tons of illegal fireworks from Poland

Customs officials in Hanover, Germany, have intercepted several tons of unauthorized pyrotechnics originating from Poland.

Over 460 packages, weighing a total of 4.4 tons, have been confiscated since last Thursday, according to the Hanover Customs Office.

“Based on current information, we assume that more similar packages will arrive,” stated customs spokesperson Enrico Bacher.

The shipments were reportedly sent from Poland to individuals across Germany. The discovery followed a tip-off from a parcel delivery service that suspected one of their packages contained pyrotechnics. Customs officials later confirmed the findings. Authorities warn that the unlicensed fireworks pose significant health risks and include dangerous items beyond typical New Year’s Eve firecrackers. “We strongly advise against ordering fireworks from such dealers,” Bacher stressed.

Ordering fireworks without the proper permits is not only hazardous but also constitutes a criminal offense under German law.
