The Democratic Party of South Korea, the main opposition force, has filed a motion to impeach Acting President Han Duck-soo.
The reason is his refusal to approve the appointment of Constitutional Court judges necessary for reviewing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Yoon Suk-yeol was removed from office after declaring martial law, which sparked public and parliamentary outrage. His actions triggered a political crisis: the parliament annulled the martial law, and Yoon, along with his senior aides, announced their intention to resign.
Han Duck-soo explained that he lacks the authority to make such appointments without an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties. The Democratic Party plans to put Han’s impeachment to a vote on December 27.
