The trial of 58-year-old Ryan Raut, accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, has been rescheduled to September 8, 2025. The trial was originally set for February.
According to ABC News, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon granted the defense’s request to delay the trial to allow more time to examine evidence and consider an insanity defense.
The defense has gained access to a substantial amount of evidence, including 17 mobile phones, hundreds of hours of video footage, and other materials. The judge noted that postponing the trial to September provides adequate time for preparation without undue delay.
Prosecutors allege that Raut spent weeks planning the assassination and attempted to execute his plan on September 15, 2023, at Trump’s golf club. A Secret Service agent spotted him before the act could be carried out. Prosecutors claim Raut left a note detailing his intentions.
The defendant faces life imprisonment if convicted, along with additional charges, including assaulting a federal officer. Raut has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in federal custody without bail.
