Europeans believe Trump will cut off financial aid to Ukraine – poll

According to a survey conducted by YouGov, residents of several European countries believe that Donald Trump, the newly elected U.S. president, will end financial aid to Ukraine after assuming office on January 20, 2025.

The poll included citizens from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Italy. A majority of respondents in Germany (62%), Spain (60%), the United Kingdom (56%), Denmark (59%), France (52%), and Italy (51%) consider this scenario likely. In Sweden, 48% of those surveyed shared the same view.

Meanwhile, only 19–20% of respondents in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Denmark believe that ending aid is unlikely. Respondents in Italy (24%) and Sweden (31%) were somewhat more skeptical, suggesting that financial support for Kyiv may continue.

The survey was conducted between December 3 and December 18, 2024, involving 2,119 participants from the United Kingdom, 1,014 from France, 2,198 from Germany, and over a thousand respondents from the other countries. The study’s margin of error was not specified.

Previously, Donald Trump stated that he intends to resolve the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations, claiming he could achieve a resolution quickly. In an interview with NBC News, Trump also noted that under his administration, Ukraine is unlikely to receive the same level of aid as it did during Joe Biden’s presidency.
