NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that the Alliance will bolster its presence in the Baltic Sea following recent damage to cables in the region.
Rutte made the statement after speaking with Finnish President Alexander Stubb. The two discussed an ongoing investigation, led by Finland, into the potential sabotage of underwater cables.
In a post on the social media platform X, Rutte expressed full solidarity and support, stating, “NATO will increase its military presence in the Baltic Sea.”
Additionally, Finnish officials reported disruptions to four telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea, which connect Finland to Estonia and Germany. Three of these disruptions had previously been reported by Estonia. In response, Estonia has decided to deploy patrol vessels to safeguard the energy link between Finland and Estonia.
